YouTube : The Best Video Sharing Website

Youtube

YouTube is the most popular video sharing website on the entire internet and it the third most visited website after Google and Facebook. YouTube is a great source of knowledge, entertainment and other interesting videos. It is the best platform for Vloggers (Video Bloggers) and it is being used by all types of people. From students to Scientists and from Housewives to Celebrities, all are under the influence of this great video website.
People get on to YouTube to find funny videos, missed TV shows, to learn about their field of interest. Some people are even getting famous by uploading their videos on YouTube. YouTube has become everyone’s favorite and everyone who uses the internet knows about it and spends at least an hour of the Week on YouTube.
The possibilities are enormous, you can listen to any of your favorite songs, watch your favorite funny videos without the need to see a commercial after periods of time (Ads on YouTube appear only before the Video for few seconds and do not disturb you in middle of the video).
Ok, enough praising of YouTube. Lets talk about “How to use YouTube?”
Well, most of you will say that it is damn easy, just go to the website and search for a video and watch it and if you want to comment or like then you need to have a Google account. Login and enjoy.
In this article we will be discussing about the history, features and developments related to our favorite video website (I am not talking those videos).

The Start

The history of YouTube starts when three former PayPal employees started working on a website that allowed people to share videos with the world. They started with activating the domain name “www.youtube.com” on the 14th of February, 2005 (On Valentine’s Day?). The website was designed and developed in next few months.
Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim were the main people behind this great idea. We won’t talk about the history of these people as we need to focus on knowing about YouTube.
People were offered a preview of the next big thing in the May of that year, almost six months before YouTube was officially available to the world. YouTube was funded from various sources.
Do you know the first video ever uploaded on YouTube was this one. It was a video of Jawed Karim and it was shot by Yakov Lapitsky at the San Diego Zoo.

Rising Days

When people were enjoying the summers of 2006, employees were concerned about meeting the growing demand for the website. YouTube was among the fastest growing websites on the internet accompanied by Facebook.
The site was getting over 65,000 video Uploads and over 100 million videos were viewed everyday in July. At that time YouTube was ranked 5th most popular website on Alexa. The website was getting over 20 million unique visitors every month. According to some surveys it was found that most of the visitors were teenagers of the age group 12 to 17 years.
Out of those millions of visitors on YouTube is was found that 44% visitors were females and 56% were males.
YouTube got into earning revenue in the June of 2006. It entered into marketing and advertising by making partnership with NBC.

Google showed interest

In the same year (2006) when YouTube was getting famous like no other website ever did. On the 9th of October 2006, YouTube was sold to Google for US$1.6 billion. Even then YouTube was working independent of Google and was being run by its founders and 60+ employees.
Okay, so now when we have discussed about the history of YouTube and how it became what is now. We will now proceed to know more of the insights of YouTube and how it is used.

What Parents need to know about YouTube?

Parents need to know some points about YouTube that are meant to be taken in consideration. As a parent you need to know that YouTube is a community driven website and it depends upon the viewers of the website to flag content that violates YouTube terms of services, such content counts brutal violence, sexual content or misleading videos etc. Their are millions of videos on YouTube that are not age-appropriate for kids. So, it is the duty of parents to keep an eye on what their child is viewing on YouTube. Children these days just love YouTube, they use it for keeping up with the modern culture. They watch educational videos to Musical videos to homemade videos of their friends and family too.

Some Awesome features that make it this big

Before going any further you need to know about some words associated with YouTube.
Channels: When you become a member of YouTube, you’ll be assigned a personal channel of your own. On that channel people will be able to see the videos that you upload and the people you’ve subscribed to and what videos you have liked etc. It is actually your personal description through which people who visit your website can learn about you and if they like you then they can subscribe to you. People can visit your channel by clicking on your username and you can visit their channel by clicking on their username.

Now Read about these features

Creating Playlists: This feature is one of my favorite ones. All you need to have is an account on YouTube, then you can group similar or your favorite videos together to create a playlist. Then you can play them in specific order on you channel’s page.

Opting Out of Advertisements: Showing ads on your videos can fetch you some money but it is mostly like that people don’t like videos which show ads. So, you can opt out of ads to give your viewers a better experience.

Monetization of Videos: When you cross a certain number of views on your video then you’ll get an E-mail from Google asking if you want to monetize your videos or not. If you do it, you’ll be making money out of your videos.

Create a Watch List: Suppose you don’t have time to watch a video on YouTube and you want to watch it later. You can add it to Watch later list simply.

Upload a Video: I don’t know why I am putting this point at the last but yeah ! It is the best feature of YouTube, anyone is allowed to upload a video and share it with the world.

Conclusion

YouTube is the best video sharing website ever and it will always be.

Top 40 SEO Myths You Should Know About – Part 1

Many ebooks and other resources that business owners use will place an important emphasis on the need to be at the top of search results, whether that be on Google Search, other engines, or even in places like social media. But surveys have shown that people quite often will look at other results and they will scroll down through the page. Being on top of a second page, for example, can be quite beneficial for traffic. Also, search ranking is only one part of the puzzle. Now Google places other results on the page like social recommendations and local results as well, which means there are many more avenues open to you, and being in first place is no longer as crucial as it once was.
Myth #2: You can do SEO Without Outside Help
Doing SEO simply means that you follow a set of techniques and procedures to improve the chance that web users will go to your site. It is true that anybody can learn these techniques, and, if you are a web site owner and you want to do your own SEO, then you can spend the time to learn and apply those techniques. But SEO can be complex and touches many areas such as marketing online, coding, technical aspects and PR skills. Most business owners simply do not have everything required to do a great job at SEO, and that is why so many agencies exist that offer help. An IT worker or online marketer is often not enough if you want truly good results.

Myth #3: META Tags are Very Important
It used to be that every page on your site needed Meta tags in order to rank well. Those are small pieces of code that would give Google a list of keywords and a description. The search engine would use those to find out what your web site was about. Now however, those do not affect your ranking at all. Both Google and Bing stopped caring about META tags awhile back. However, Meta tags are not useless. For example, the description tag is the text that often appears next to the link that shows up in the search results, so it still serves a useful function.
Myth #4: Keyword-Rich Domain Names are Ranked Higher
Back in the dotcom days, it used to be that the URL you used was very important. Google placed a lot of importance on the domain name, and if you could get a name that had your keyword in it, you would gain a big advantage over other sites. This is why a lot of companies in the late 90′s bought domain names for a lot of money. But now, the indexing process only looks at the actual content of your pages, and not the domain name. The domain name is still important, because people still get to see it, but it will not give you a higher rank.
Myth #5: You have to Submit Your Site to Google or Other Search Engines
All search engines used to have URL submission forms where you could send your site to Google and others. In fact, they still do, but that process is unnecessary. The crawlers that these engines use now are sophisticated enough that any new site will be found in a matter of days, if not hours. The only time you would have to worry about submitting your site is if for some reason it was not indexed automatically after a couple of days.
Myth #6: Submitting a Sitemap will Boost Your Rankings
Google offers a webmaster interface and from there, you can submit a sitemap, which is a XML file containing links to every page on your site. Some site owners take the time to submit such a file every time they make a change, but that is not necessary. Submitting a sitemap does not change your rankings. All it does is add pages which may not have been indexed already. If your site is typical and has links to all your pages, then it is not needed.
Myth #7: SEO has Nothing to do with Social Media
Before the advent of Facebook and Twitter, SEO was the one and only technique to get traffic in an organic way. But now, social media is everywhere, and the line is quickly blurring between the two. While some marketers still consider SEO and social media to be different beasts, the truth is that they are very closely linked. For example, Google now places their own social network, Google Plus, into its search results. If you can get enough influential people to talk about your product and link to your site, then their recommendations will show up in any Google search result that their friends do. This clearly affects SEO. On the flip side, Facebook has also entered search, by recently introducing their Open Graph engine, which searches based on friends and interests. So the two spheres are closely linked, and they are becoming closer all the time.
Myth #8: Google does not read CSS Files
The Google bot used to be fairly primitive and only saw text, which is why many people concentrated on the text part of their web site. But now that engine is very sophisticated and reads JavaScript, CSS, and more. The crawler can definitely see whether your site’s presentation is appealing to users or not. For example, if someone searches on a mobile device and you have no mobile layout on your site, you may be missing out.
Myth #9: You Need to Update Your Home Page All the Time
Some people think that by updating their home page content all the time they will rank higher, or by not updating it their ranking will drop. In most cases that is not the case, because if you have a sales page that offers a product, then there would be no reason to update that page unless something about the product changes, and Google expects that.
Myth #10: The H1 Header has Greater Value than the Rest of Your Text
The structure of your page is seen by Google and other engines, but you have to realize that many sites are structured very differently. As such, no one specific tag has more value than another. An H1 tag is simply a header that corresponds to a CSS entry in order for the user to see your page a certain way. It does not make Google rank your page any differently if you use H2 tags instead, or if your keywords are mostly in the text and not in a specific CSS tag.
Myth #11: Linking to Other Highly Ranked Sites Helps Your Ranking
Some sites try to link to many other high authority sites in order to help their rankings, but that does not help at all. Google uses PageRank to decide how your site will rank, and that algorithm is based on how useful your site is to others, and as such it will only look at how many other people link to you. Whether you link back to them is of no importance. Otherwise, any site could rise to the top simply by linking to millions of sites, which is simply not the case.
Myth #12: Using Automated SEO Methods is Always Spam
Many people use automated SEO methods that do not fall into the spam area. Many companies have very big sites and they use automated scripts to do a lot of the grunt work of SEO. Whether or not a method is spammy is based on what the result is, not on how automated it is.
Myth #13: PageRank is the Only Factor that Matters
The algorithm that Google uses to rank sites is PageRank, which determines how useful a site is to others. But according to Google, search result rankings are also affected by hundreds of other inputs. Some of these inputs are easy to see, like having your site being recommended by others on Google Plus. This proves that not only PageRank matters. The company is staying tight-lipped on how many inputs there are and how important each is, but it is clear that there is more going on than just PageRank. With that said however, it is still widely believed that PageRank is the most important factor, and a PR10 page is always better than a PR3 page.
Myth #14: The Title Tag is Hidden from Search Engines
Most of what Google sees on your site is the text that is visible to users, such as what appears on the screen and is rendered in a web browser. As such, it would be easy to think that the title is not picked up. However, your title is very important for SEO, because it is the text that appears on the link people will click on. Not only is Google using it to help your ranking, but people will also see it when they go to click on your site.

How to use "x-default hreflang" for international landing pages?

Multilingual sites
Delivering your blog's or website's content in a multitude of languagescan make your web entity accessible to a wider range of audience. Indeed, this is one of the many strategies webmasters employ to increase their website traffic. They can simply configure their homepages to point towards specialized content tailored for different users' different language requirement. but now, there's a new and more SEO friendly way of doing this. Webmasters can now specify such specialized homepages using a new rel-alternate-hreflang annotation that Google only just introduced, and is compatible not only with Google, but other search engines as well such as Yandex.

There are two basic ways of delivering multi-lingual content; either through redirecting users to another page with the corresponding language setting, or dynamically changing your page's content to match the preferences of the users (and based on other things as well like their geographic location etc). But whatever way you deliver the content, this markup will still work perfectly.

'Rel-Alternate-Hreflang'

Take this site as an example. Suppose we were to serve our content in four different languages, English, Spanish, French, and German. The respective URLs would look something like this.
  • and so on.....
If we were to add this annotation to our site, the best approach would be to use <link /> tags in the head of our HTML documents. Here's the syntax for this annotation.
<link href="http://www.mybloggertricks.com/en/" rel="alternate" hreflang="en" />
(for English content)

The 'x-default hreflang' attribute

You can use the "x-default" value in the hreflang attribute to indicate that a page indicated by the href attribute doesn't have any specific language preferences, and is the default page for any type of audience. This should be used when the link points to the homepage, and not to any language-specific page. For example;
<link href="http://www.mybloggertricks.com/" rel="alternate" hreflang="x-default" />
As mentioned earlier, it doesn't matter whether you change the content of your website dynamically to accommodate different languages, or redirect users to specific pages. This annotation will still work. If you have problems with using this annotations, please feel free to ask us in the comments below. Also share your feedback on the selection of topics at our blog =D

This Academy was set up last year, but was only available in the English language up until now. Now though, thanks to Google, the Webmaster Academy has gone international, with support for more than 40 languages!
The purpose of establishing this Academy was to educate and guide webmasters into creating websites that perform well in search results. For any blogger, this can serve as the ultimate guide or a complete roadmap that webmasters and bloggers can follow towards success, since the ultimate goal is getting the best performance in search results. So if you haven't still heard of the Webmaster Academy, then you should start off with it immediately.

What it has to offer?

The Webmaster Academy is a fully-fledged academy in the sense that it covers a huge scope of topics, vertically as well as horizontally.

There are various sections in the interface for different type of users. These include Beginners, Advanced users, and Small business owners. Each section has a checklist where you can place a check-box next to each resource that you complete, and you will see your overall progress at the top. These steps are organized in a logical pattern, so you can move from one to the next in a sequential manner.

Once you're done with one section, you can move on to the next. It's a really well organized resource that you can master within no time at all. And now, it is available in a wider ranger of languages. Google says that the Academy is available in over 20 languages, but that number is actually 43, including English.

So what do you want to learn today? Head over to the Webmaster Academy, and start your training as a webmaster from Google itself! You'll be the master of your game in no time at all! All the best :)
