FACEBOOK HOME HACKED TO WORK ON (ALMOST) ANY ANDROID DEVICE

Facebook Home leaked at the start of this week, much before the actual release early yesterday over at the Google Play Store, but unfortunately the app/service was limited to just the USA, and select regions, as well as only select phones as well, which was a bummer for a majority of people out there that wanted to try out Facebook’s new social app. Thankfully, the software has now been hacked to install and work on almost any Android device out there!

This is thanks to Paul O’Brien at MoDaCo for doing all the hard work. If you live outside of the US but have a supported device, you just need the latest version of Facebook’s regular and Messenger apps and then just download the APK, activate it, and you’re good to go. But if your phone isnt a supported device on Facebook’s approved list, then you need to uninstall the Facebook and Facebook Messenger apps from your phone, install the patched versions of Facebook, Messenger and Home (via the source below), and that’s about it.

All the features seem to be working just fine, except for sending SMS from the Messenger app. If you’re interested in giving it a go, head on over to the link below.

The difference now is, you will get more comprehensive details about the sources of income for your videos.

The timeliness of earnings reporting has been improved to 24 hours after the end of the day, but you can still see page views and clicks. You can also review ads and manage ad blocking for your videos, just like in AdSense.

For YouTube partners, there are two major forms of income. Auction-sold ads, and reserve-sold ads. The auction-sold ads went to AdSense earnings before, and reserve-spot ads went to YouTube earnings. Both AdSense and YouTube reported their own respective earnings. But now, all earnings related to your videos have been integrated into YouTube to form a more streamlined feature which will help you keep track of your total earnings and your video performance better.

Facebook New API for Monitoring comment Replies

As you might have noticed, Facebook introduced threaded comments to posts on Fan Pages. And I must say, it was a long-awaited and much-needed feature indeed. It made conversations much more organized, and readable. But what if you wanted to integrate this functionality, and fetch & deliver comments and their replies from your page onto your website? If you're a developer, you'd know that you need an API for this sort of work. Fortunately, you are in luck, because Facebook just rolled out  a new update for its API for comments and replies on Facebook pages. Using this, you can monitor and respond to comments and replies on your Page.

Updates to the API

This update comments API now provides developers with different 'views' of the comments on your page. There are three basic views; Top Level Comments, Replies and Comment Streams. These views can be accessed by the Graph API as well as through Facebook's FQL table.

Top Level comments - These are individual comments to the post itself, and not replied to any comment. This view is called "top level". The comments in this view might be ranked on the basis of their quality, replies, and some other factors.

Replies - This view, called "replies" fetches replies to an individual comment of a post.

Comment Streams - "stream" will return all top level comments and their replies in a chronological order, so the top level comments here won't be ranked.

FQL Commands

You can get data using both FQL ad Graph API. If you're using existing API, you need to keep in mind that the 'comments' column in the 'stream' FQL table has been depreciated. Instead, use 'comment_info' field to fetch data from 'can_comments' and 'comment_count' fields. Here are the FQL queries for the three views.

Few days back, Facebook had announced a new product called Facebook Home, for Android phones which will serve as the home screen for your phone. Basically, it functions like a launcher and sits on the home screen and is tightly connected to Facebook. Facebook Home provides you with Facebook experience featuring full-screen photos, status updates, and notifications. Facebook Home was expected to releasing on April 12th in US and in other countries later, but now a pre-release build of Facebook Home has been leaked and available for download.

According to information from Modaco, there are three builds which have been leaked and they include the Facebook app (‘katana’), SMS Messenger app (orca) and the Home / Launcher ‘shell’ app (Home).

According to Paul O’Brien, the app works on any Android device with a maximum resolution of 1280×768 and the ability to completely uninstall your existing Facebook app.

The leaked APKs are re-signed and can’t just be installed over the top of an existing installation, so you will need to completely remove existing Facebook app installed on your Android. The build itself is pulled from a pre-release HTC First ROM and seems to be rather buggy and incomplete and the Chat heads feature does not work.

Since this is a pre-release software, there could also be a chance of security risk.

Facebook Home- Hands on and First Impressions

Facebook Home is a new product announced by Facebook few days back and it acts as a home screen for your Android phone and also integrated deeply into your Facebook account. Facebook had also announced a new phone, HTC First, running the Facebook home and is all set to release on April 12th. But before the official release, the pre-release build was leaked and was made available for download for all Androidphones. Although the build is incomplete as many features are not yet implemented and has quite a lot of bugs, you can still test out the look and feel of Android’s new home.

Facebook Home provides you with Facebook experience featuring full-screen photos, stetus updates, and notifications.

We tested the new Facebook Home on Galaxy Nexus with Android 4.2.2 and here are the impressions on the new Android home.

As of now there are three APKs you need to install, first is the new Facebook app, second is the Facebook Messenger and third the actual Facebook Home. Once the installation is complete, you can click on the homebuttan on your Android and you can select the Facebook Home from there. To get started, you need to login with your Facebook ID. The app optionally asks you whether you want to search for your contacts on Facebook. If you do not want this feature, you can skip it.

Once you have set up, you can see the new home screen is filled with updates and images from your timeline, you can swipe through them. You might see your profile bubble at the bottom, which shows you profile picture. This is the place from where you navigate to other areas on your phone. When you click and hold the bubble, you can see three options pop up, first is camera, second is Apps and finally there is Facebook.

We couldn’t test the camera functionality as it is disabled in this build. When you scroll the home screen, you get to see the updates from your friends and double click on any image likes the image or update. You can also view the comments and add your comments all without actually opening the Facebook app.

Any new notifications you receive will be shown on the home screen and you can swipe them away or click them to open it.

Moving your profile bubble to apps brings the app drawer. You can see your home screen (which you already had on your phone) along with the complete app list. The full list of apps is a vertical scroll unlike the horizontal one on core Android.

Once you install the Facebook Home, one thing you would probably notice is that the Android’s notification center is completely gone, but not to worry, you can bring it back from the Facebook home settings.

There are quite a lot of tweaks available in the app, probably because this is a dev build. We are not sure if these will come in the final build of Facebook home.

So is Facebook Home worth it? Yes, to an extend as it brings a nice full screen view of your timeline and a neat way to manage your Facebook. But this will probably hold good for people who are totally into Facebook. Moreover, it will take some time to get used to the controls since you have been using and managing yourAndroid phone on a different level.

One issue we found about the Facebook home is that it will show the timeline and allows you to scroll them even when the phone is locked and this could be a privacy issue. We need to wait till April 12th when the final build is out and we might probably see more changes.
