Amazon announced today that they will be expanding their Android app store to nearly 200 countries.
Developers were notified that they can submit their apps for distribution in approximately 200 countries and that Android device owners in the newly supported countries will be able to download apps in the “coming months”. The list so far includes Australia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, India, South Africa, and South Korea. Previously Amazon’s app store was only available in the US, Japan and in some parts of Europe such as the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain.
Amazon wont be selling their Kindle Fire tablets in the new markets though, but users will be able to download the Amazon Appstore Android app on to their smartphone, and download/buy apps from Amazon, outside of Google’s Play Store.
