Acer Further Extends Iconia Series, Announces Acer Iconia A1 Tablet


Of late, Acer announced a new Android tablet in NY at a press event. The new tablet is ‘Acer Iconia A1’ and as you can see it’s a further addition to the ‘Iconia’ series of tablets. According to Acer, the tablet will be available in two variants, one is of 8 GB internal memory and another one is of 16 GB internal memory. The 8 GB variant is priced at $169 (Rs.9100/- approx) while the 16 GB variant costs $200 (Rs.10700/- approx). Moreover, both of these tablets will be available for sale in the US later this month.

According to the sources, the tablet was earlier leaked numerous times, so its launch was inevitable. The tablet Iconia A1 features a 7.9 inch capacitive LED-backlit IPS multi-touch screen having XGA i.e. 1024 x 768 pixels resolution (4:3 aspect ratio). Running on latest Android v4.2 Jelly Bean operating system, it encompasses a quad-core MediaTek processor with maximum clock speed at 1.2 GHz.
It seems that the tablet will also be available in 3G + WiFi and only WiFi variants. In addition, there will more connectivity options such as Bluetooth v4.0, microUSB v2.0, HDMI, GPS, 3.5 mm audio jack etc. In terms of memory, like we said, it will be available in 8 GB and 16 GB internal storage variants. Besides, the smartphone has a 1 GB of RAM and a microSD card slot for expansion (max 32 GB).
There is a 5 megapixel camera at rear while at front there is a VGA camera. The tablet is capable of playing full HD videos (1080p). The dimensions of the tablet are 208.7 x 145.7 x 11.1 mm. The weight varies in accordance with the variants. The 3G variant weighs around 430 grams while the weight of the WiFi only version is about 410 grams. A 3250 mAh battery is there to make it run.

As for India launch, we think that the tablet would be made available in the country in the coming months.
