Nokia Asha 501 Full Touch Phone Announced, Arriving in India Next Month


Nokia has announced Nokia Asha 501, its first phone to run on revamped Asha platform. Actually the device runs on Series 40 operating system equipped with fully Touch Nokia Asha Platform v1.0. Moreover, a few elements from Nokia MeeGo OS have been brought for the Asha series. The brand new Nokia Asha 501 is priced at $99 (about Rs.5300/-), it will be launched in the country next month. The phone comes with remarkable features and specifications, which we will be discussing later in this post.

The phone, like we said, has revamped operating system and user interface. It features a ‘Fastlane View’ panel that comprises the lately used stuffs and notifications. The panel has several shortcuts like Social Networks, Message Previews, Music Player etc. There is another panel that lets you access your apps. It comes preloaded with Nokia App store, which lets you download numerous apps and games. Some other apps that come preloaded with the device are Facebook, Twitter, eBuddy Messenger, ESPN, Foursquare, LinkedIn, WeChat, Nimbuzz, WhatsApp etc. Most of all, it comes with Nokia’s popular Xpress Browser that automatically reduces data consumption by compressing it and provides full browsing expressing with lightning fast data transfer.
Nokia Asha 501 features a 3 inches (7.62 cm) LCD Transmissive capacitive Two-point multi-touch screen with QVGA (320 x 240 pixels) display resolution (~133 ppi pixels density) and 262 k colors. Some other display features include scratch-resistant glass, double tapping screen, RGB Stripe, Nokia Glance Screen and brightness controller. The supported sensors are Accelerometer and proximity sensor.
It features a 3.2 Megapixel fixed focus primary camera at rear having 2048 x 1536 pixels resolution and 3x digital zoom capability. However, there is no flash. Some other camera features are still image editor, self-timer, auto/manual white balance, automatic light sensitivity and full screen viewfinder. It is going to be available in two variants Single SIM and Easy Swap Dual SIM.
Some other connectivity features include 2G, WiFi IEEE 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v3.0, microUSB v2.0 and 3.5 mm audio jack. It comes with 64 MB RAM and in the sales package there will be a Nokia 4 GB microSD Card, which means it has a microSD card slot and the maximum expansion capacity is up to 32 GB. There are more preloaded apps other than the earlier mentioned such as Assassin’s Creed III, Camera 5-in-1, Little Big City, Nokia Gift, Real Football 2013, The Weather Channel etc.
It also comes with Slam feature that lets you share your contents with a slam. Weighing just 91 grams the Nokia Asha 501 is 12.1 mm thick. It is powered by a BL-4U 1200 mAh removable battery that provides up to 624 hours of standby time, 17 hours of talk time and 56 hours of music playback time. It will be available in a total of 6 colors such as Black, White, Cyan, Bright Green, Yellow and Bright Red.
